Whats the best free software for shrinking photos or lessening the size for email?
If you don't fancy downloading a new application to your computer, than you could use a free online service like one of these:

All are free to use,

http://www.picnik.com

http://www.splashup.com/

If you fancy downloading something, you cant go wrong with GIMP, it's free fully featured image manipulation package and works on most operating systems

Reply: A stand alone App to do the job is PIXresizer.

As with converting audio wav files to mp3 reducing the size of a photo will reduce the quality. Information is lost to enable the reduction in file size.

A lot depends on the end use. If a pic is going to be reprinted by the receiver then a larger file size is better. If just a reference type pic is needed then go for more reduction.

Also a lot depends on the resolution and quality of the original.

It's easy enough to try two or three different reduction levels with this app.

Just pick which you think is the best then delete what you don't want.

Reply:If your looking for free software. I would use Ifranview or Picasa. Ifranview's is better for simply shrinking the size. Picasa works well for cropping and editing. You can dowlonad it here: http://www.irfanview.com/

Reply:Definitely not the best program but I usually use MS Paint to shrink the size of pictures. Quality is a bit affected but its usually not that bad. Hope that helps
Reply:the best one for me is Irfanview.
